Education as a Community
What roles do we play?
Once upon a time the people that made up communities banded together to find quality teachers to teach in their communities. These teachers not only taught the little ones but the adults as well. Families would also teach the teacher by the show of generosity, payment for services,
supplies and inviting them in for a meal.
Communities, that is the hidden key to quality schools.
The roles of families, teachers, and community members have changed over time.
One thing remains the same though, all three of these groups expect
for students to learn.
This educator believes the education the system needs to start listening to the families it serves and the community
those families live in.
Our group concern is education children.
Education
Reform
Through past and future education reform that includes families,
communities and educators there is continued growth and improvement.

Quality Education for Every Child
An example of community and family involvement can be seen
at Riverview Gardens School District.
At this district, you will see partnerships with area
Universities like Maryville University.
You will see Community Outreach programs with partners like The Little
Bit Foundation.
The Superintendent of Riverview Gardens School District has
been named Missouri Superintendent
of the Year
This district sees the importance of keeping the
connections of family, community, and educators strong.

What can we do?
Families
·
Support your students to do their best in school.
·
Support your students to do their best in class and with their behavior.
·
Encourage them to join a team or a club that interests them, that is sponsored by their school and community.
·
Be active in your child’s school and the district.
Community
·
Give your input to the local school district of your needs regarding your future employees and members.
·
Be active with the families in your area.
·
Be present at the schools in your area as support for the school and the families.
Teachers
·
Remember that you are a member of your student's extended family.
·
Communicate with your families about the positive and how to support their students.
·
Stay current with your skills and new teaching criteria.
·
Be the teacher you wanted or had when you were a
student.
Positive
Future
The future is bright, to quote a song lyric. So many people that are not part of a
strong education community talk about how education is failing and
victimizing people.
What I would like to see is for the partnerships to
continue and only become stronger.
·
Parents being on campus and helping in the capacity as volunteers.
·
More community partnerships sponsoring classes, curriculum
and activities.
